The Dolphins went off the board in a big way for Delmar Glaze, 40 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Landing Elliss that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Ruke Orhorhoro in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 66 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brandon Dorlus at pick 71 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Jonah Elliss, who had no business lasting to No. 104. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
James Williams in pick No. 127 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Josh Newton in the 128th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
