The Dolphins spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 23.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Zinter pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in Round 2, Pick 23 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Javon Bullard in the 73rd pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They went early on Zak Zinter in pick No. 88, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
James Williams in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to the 198th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
They read the board right and Nathan Thomas was the payoff at slot 241. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
