The Buccaneers did not so much draft Sam Hecht as overpay for him, 42 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. On value alone, Stukes makes the weekend a net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. Need was not the driver here.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hecht in pick No. 46, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Skyler Bell in the 77th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Treydan Stukes was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 16, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The roster fit checks out.
Jaeden Roberts at pick 155 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 195 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Keyshaun Elliott in pick No. 229, a genuine coup. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
