A mixed bag for the Chiefs, and a C to match.

Nobody else had Nicholas Singleton anywhere near pick No. 9. The Chiefs did, by 100 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.

The Everette steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 109
In the 9th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, a steep price for the projection.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Caleb Lomu · OT · rank 28
In slot 29 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Brian Parker II · OT · rank 105
Brian Parker II in pick 40 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Antonio Williams · WR · rank 64
Antonio Williams is a better player than the 74th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 81
Circle this one: Daylen Everette at No. 109 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Jakobe Thomas · S · rank 140
Jakobe Thomas in Round 5, Pick 8 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Beau Stephens in the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Eric Rivers · WR · rank 167
Nice patience on Eric Rivers, who had no business lasting to the 176th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.29 · Pick 210 · Justin Jefferson · LB · rank 198
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Justin Jefferson at pick No. 210. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
