Nobody else had Nicholas Singleton anywhere near pick No. 9. The Chiefs did, by 100 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
The Everette steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, a steep price for the projection.
In slot 29 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Brian Parker II in pick 40 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Antonio Williams is a better player than the 74th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Daylen Everette at No. 109 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jakobe Thomas in Round 5, Pick 8 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Beau Stephens in the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Eric Rivers, who had no business lasting to the 176th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Justin Jefferson at pick No. 210. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
