There is reaching, and then there is Mike Washington Jr. at pick No. 7. The Commanders jumped the board by 68 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
They banked enough surplus on Boston to cover a lot of smaller sins. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Taking Denzel Boston in Round 3, Pick 7 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in the 147th overall pick, where J.C. Davis graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
