Boards are made to be trusted, and the Raiders shredded theirs for Sam M'Pemba. He came off 267 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Ramsey pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, running back and other spots.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value.
No edge and no loss on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick No. 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
LT Overton in the 67th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kamari Ramsey at safety with quarterback, running back and other spots open.
Chandler Rivers in slot 117 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A surprising call. With quarterback, running back and other spots still to address, they spent pick 134 on Bishop Fitzgerald, a safety they were not short of.
Nice patience on Cyrus Allen, who had no business lasting to slot 175. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sam M'Pemba. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in the 208th pick: Pat Coogan for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Harrison Wallace III at Round 7, Pick 3 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
