The Dolphins bet big and early on Mason Taylor, 190 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Mason Graham at par in slot 10, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 34 on Kamari Ramsey, a safety they were not short of.
A wild overpay on Mason Taylor in pick No. 99, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 112th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Kaleb Johnson in pick 148 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in slot 156, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Miles Frazier at pick No. 225 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Xavier Truss at the 232nd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Hunter Wohler in Round 7, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
