Call it larceny. Kobe King sat on the board until the 224th pick, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice.
They are betting Nelson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick No. 48 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dylan Fairchild in the 98th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jack Nelson at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 133 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Mason Taylor all the way to the 149th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a linebacker like Kobe King reach No. 224 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jonah Monheim at Round 7, Pick 15 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Garrett Dellinger enough to skip the value, taking him in the 252nd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
