You build a draft on nights like this. Raheim Sanders had no business being available in pick 224, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Winston Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Tyler Booker was the payoff at slot 48. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Andrew Mukuba here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent the 114th overall pick on Kevin Winston Jr., a safety they were not short of.
They barely believed it either: Maxwell Hairston still on the board at the 133rd pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Darius Alexander at pick No. 154 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Raheim Sanders in No. 224 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a linebacker like Karene Reid reach Round 7, Pick 15 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Hunter Wohler in the 252nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
