The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Mason McCormick at the 123rd pick regardless, 23 picks early.
Puni at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in the 56th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Taking Dominick Puni in pick 108 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Josh Newton in pick No. 121 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had cheaper options than Mohamed Kamara at the 122nd pick, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Mason McCormick in Round 4, Pick 23 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jamari Thrash in No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khristian Boyd in pick 158, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
