There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Dolphins started one anyway for Brevyn Spann-Ford, 24 picks ahead of schedule.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Hall Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in pick 57. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Hall Jr. at the 90th overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Christian Mahogany in the 93rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cole Bishop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took Josh Newton at par in pick No. 120, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A conviction pick on Justin Eboigbe at slot 133 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Khristian Boyd in the 158th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 226 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
