The Broncos did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ted Hurst fell into pick No. 130.
They are betting Davis proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: linebacker settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 43 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eli Stowers in the Round 2 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jonah Coleman at the 75th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Bud Clark in Round 3, Pick 30; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for J.C. Davis at the 108th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 111 with a little surplus value in Darrell Jackson Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ted Hurst in slot 130 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
