You build a draft on nights like this. Kitan Oladapo had no business being available in No. 179, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in pick 37: Chop Robinson for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in No. 69, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Zak Zinter in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Theo Johnson in Round 5, Pick 3 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 179 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaac Guerendo at the 185th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Tyrice Knight was the payoff at the 223rd overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Wallace in slot 256. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
