Somebody in the Round 3 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Vikings sat still while Adonai Mitchell, the No. 32 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Reaching for Watts left real value on the table behind him. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Chris Braswell slipping to the 61st overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Adonai Mitchell was still sitting there in pick 82, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Payton Wilson in No. 86 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Christian Mahogany in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Jaylin Simpson in slot 129, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board had Justin Eboigbe higher than the 157th pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 31, with Tyrone Tracy Jr. worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dylan Laube at Round 5, Pick 33 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Eric Watts at No. 219 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Tylan Grable at par in the 230th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A conviction pick on Tyler Owens at pick No. 247 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
