The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named quarterback, a need the Packers walked right past. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They are betting Taylor III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Melton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jaylen Wright in slot 58 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in the 88th overall pick: Max Melton for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Leonard Taylor III this early at the Round 3 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Malik Mustapha at par in No. 169, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
