Call it larceny. Ricky Pearsall sat on the board until the Round 7 slot, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
The Hartman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Foster. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyleik Williams at the 92nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at the Round 4 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Cedric Gray at par in Round 4, Pick 26, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Devin Neal in slot 154; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Ricky Pearsall at No. 234 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sam Hartman at pick 238 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
