The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Dallas Turner, the No. 22 name on the board, sitting there at slot 49 like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Dallas Turner still on the board at Round 2, Pick 17. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at the 92nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in pick 117. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Jaden Hicks at par in No. 126, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Payton Wilson in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Reuben Fatheree II at the 234th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalen Berger at slot 238 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
