The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Cam Skattebo, the No. 114 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 236 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Every board in the league had Walley lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board fumbled Tyler Booker all the way to No. 59, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Jordan Burch at pick No. 80, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Eli Stowers enough to skip the value, taking him in the 158th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on DJ Campbell in Round 6, Pick 27; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at the 226th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at pick 236 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Justin Walley at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
