Somebody took the Chargers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Allen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on T'Vondre Sweat at pick 50 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at No. 54 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Junior Colson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 61. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Corum. It fills a real need, too.
Malik Washington at slot 106 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braelon Allen in Round 5, Pick 3 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for AJ Barner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
