Every other box got a look, but quarterback did not. The Chargers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Barner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Chargers paired the rookies with proven help, Daniel Bellinger leading the way.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kris Jenkins in the 37th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in pick 47, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mike Sainristil at slot 69 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 106 with a little surplus value in Marshawn Kneeland. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
AJ Barner at pick No. 183 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Carson Steele in the 256th pick, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
