The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Taulia Tagovailoa went at pick 233, a good 55 picks before the board was ready.
That Williams pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for James Williams at the 116th pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kalen King at slot 151 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Mason McCormick was still sitting there in pick No. 174, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tahj Washington at pick 212 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Jowon Briggs, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Taulia Tagovailoa at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Evan Williams at No. 244 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
