There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Adam Randall a full 26 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Branch falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Gabe Jacas at pick 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
A.J. Haulcy at Round 2, Pick 26 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They robbed the room for Zachariah Branch here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Keylan Rutledge in pick No. 113, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Kaleb Proctor in the 127th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
