The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: James Williams, the 169th overall pick, roughly 44 picks past where he belonged.
If Hall pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 25 with a little surplus value in Quinyon Mitchell. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Taliese Fuaga still on the board at No. 41. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Payton Wilson in the 58th pick, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Trey Benson in the 89th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ricky Pearsall at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ben Sinnott at slot 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay James Williams at Round 5, Pick 33 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Gabe Hall in pick 202 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
The board had Nathan Thomas higher than pick 245, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Edefuan Ulofoshio was still sitting there in the 255th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
