You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Slaughter had no business being available in the Round 3 slot, and the Lions did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The Allar reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Blake Miller at the 26th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dani Dennis-Sutton well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sam Roush at Round 4, Pick 11 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Bud Clark at slot 118 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Drew Allar at the 126th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Max Llewellyn in pick 128 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Tim Keenan III in pick No. 157, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Beau Stephens went about where he belonged in No. 158. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Bryce Boettcher at Round 5, Pick 41 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aaron Graves. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Dallen Bentley is a better player than the 213th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Kaelon Black at pick 222 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
