Washington Commanders

The Commanders found their guy under center in Daniels: B.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Landing King that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 8
Jayden Daniels at pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 34
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 42
Troy Fautanu in No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Kalen King · CB · rank 48
Somehow Kalen King was still sitting there in the 68th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 87
A slide stopped in pick No. 100, with Christian Mahogany worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 106
No drama and no debate, Luke Lachey went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 4. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 144
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the 141st pick, value and slot in agreement. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R5.8 · Pick 144 · Devin Neal · RB · rank 152
Devin Neal in slot 144 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 170
Jamari Thrash slipping to the 182nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 212
A tidy bit of business in slot 225, where Miles Frazier graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.8 · Pick 228 · Kaimon Rucker · DL-EDGE · rank 221
Kaimon Rucker at No. 228 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
