Washington Commanders

The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Neal: A-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Devin Neal slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at the 182nd overall pick. Highway robbery.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, with Graham Barton leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.4 · Pick 36 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 24
A tidy bit of business in the 36th pick, where Graham Barton graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Jared Verse · DE-EDGE · rank 21
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 5: Jared Verse for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 93
Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 108
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 128
The board had Khyree Jackson higher than No. 141, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Devin Neal · RB · rank 152
They will replay Devin Neal at pick 182 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Marques Cox · OT · rank 219
Good price on Marques Cox in the 225th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
