You build a draft on nights like this. Zy Alexander had no business being available in No. 225, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Terrion Arnold in No. 36, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in pick 37, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Landon Jackson at Round 3, Pick 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Christian Mahogany slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Marist Liufau all the way to the 104th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 141 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Cole Bishop in slot 182 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
