The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 10 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nate Wiggins at slot 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Jack Sawyer in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Marist Liufau in the 74th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 37: Zach Frazier for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Will Shipley in the 106th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cade Stover in pick 141 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jamari Thrash in slot 182. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Batty in No. 184, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Ricky Pearsall at the 188th pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Duce Chestnut all the way to the 225th overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
