The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chiefs reached some 63 spots for Alfred Collins, and value like that does not grow back. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Simmons at that price is a win they earned.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Josh Simmons in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Luke Kandra a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
T.J. Sanders at pick No. 76 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jayden Higgins in the 79th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dani Dennis-Sutton at the 98th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ozzy Trapilo. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Bech well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cobee Bryant at pick 133 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They talked themselves into Alfred Collins at Round 5, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Savion Williams in the 254th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
