Call it larceny. Kalel Mullings sat on the board until Round 6, Pick 19, and the Chiefs did not need to be asked twice. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot.
Taking Jack Sawyer in pick No. 36 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Emery Jones Jr. in pick 61 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tate Ratledge reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tre Harris at slot 66 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 110 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Wyatt Milum at Round 4, Pick 21 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 125th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Jack Bech in slot 133, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Kalel Mullings at pick No. 194 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Bryson Nesbit was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 22, and they pounced on premier tight end value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
