Kansas City Chiefs

Fairchild should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a D-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Dylan Fairchild slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Kelvin Banks Jr. · OT · rank 8
Kelvin Banks Jr. at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R1.32 · Pick 32 · Jack Sawyer · DE-EDGE · rank 10
In No. 32 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 17
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at the 66th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 39
They will replay Tate Ratledge at pick No. 68 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.32 · Pick 96 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 41
Wyatt Milum in the 96th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 18
Taking Walter Nolen in slot 105 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.17 · Pick 155 · Sonny Styles · S · rank 51
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Sonny Styles in Round 5, Pick 17, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.30 · Pick 168 · Jack Bech · WR · rank 138
Jack Bech at pick 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 101
Circle this one: Riley Mahlman at the 171st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.33 · Pick 208 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 67
Somehow Dylan Fairchild was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
