Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chiefs shredded theirs for Noah Thomas. He came off 95 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The Nolen value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Jack Sawyer still on the board at pick No. 46. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Tate Ratledge higher than slot 50, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tre Harris in the 64th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Wyatt Milum reach pick 66 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sonny Styles in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Walter Nolen was still sitting there in No. 133, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tommi Hill at slot 141 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Riley Mahlman at the 149th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 168 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Noah Thomas at the 201st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
