Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Chiefs, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Coleman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Simpson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 27, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kiran Amegadjie at the 60th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in pick No. 64: Graham Barton for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Gabriel Murphy slipping to No. 95 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylin Simpson in No. 172 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value with a capital V on Omar Brown in the 210th overall pick, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 250 with a little surplus value in Blake Watson. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
