Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D-.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Cypress II where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
Will Campbell in the 2nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Emeka Egbuka at par in slot 17, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Emery Jones at No. 34, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at pick No. 66 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for R.J. Oben in the 81st pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jacobee Bryant in pick 98 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Edwards. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Aubrey Burks slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nice patience on Fentrell Cypress II, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 23. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Seth McLaughlin went about where he belonged in No. 209. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
