The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Emery Jones, the No. 33 name on the board, in the 67th pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get protection for the quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Emeka Egbuka all the way to pick No. 34, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
TreVeyon Henderson is a better player than slot 66 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 67 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Rylie Mills went about where he belonged in the 98th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nazir Stackhouse at Round 4, Pick 7 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Noah Thomas at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Malik Spencer at No. 162 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Aubrey Burks come to them and pounced at pick 167. A minor itch, scratched.
Ben Bywater in the 183rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
