The Commanders' one glaring miss is tight end, a need they left exactly as they found it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Baron pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Emery Jones in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for TreVeyon Henderson in slot 36, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at pick No. 66 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 68th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board had cheaper options than Tyler Baron at pick 98, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on CJ Daniels at Round 5, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Zy Alexander in No. 162; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Ben Bywater went about where he belonged in the 183rd pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
