The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Carson Hinzman at pick No. 183 regardless, 22 picks early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Henderson. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a premier pass rusher. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on Landon Jackson in slot 34, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Tate Ratledge in No. 66, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Jason Henderson in pick 98, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Gentry Williams at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Reuben Fatheree II in the 162nd overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Carson Hinzman, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
