Call it larceny. Lathan Ransom sat on the board until the 148th overall pick, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They are betting Dellinger proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a bendy edge with upside. A real need, handled.
They paid a round early for Jayden Higgins in Round 2, Pick 29, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Quinshon Judkins in the 79th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Lathan Ransom in the 148th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Fair-plus on Alijah Huzzie, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
John Williams at slot 238 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Garrett Dellinger at No. 250, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
