Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Hollin Pierce, the No. 118 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 207th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tre Harris at pick 61. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Quinshon Judkins higher than slot 79, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 148 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Hollin Pierce all the way to No. 207, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Quincy Riley still on the board at the 238th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DJ Campbell in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
