The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Tyler Booker, the No. 34 name on the board, sitting there at Round 3, Pick 2 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Emery Jones in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Jabbar Muhammad in pick 37, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Booker at the 66th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Dillon Gabriel still on the board at the 98th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dasan McCullough slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 2 is lovely value for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Billy Bowman Jr. at pick No. 162 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Noah Daniels at No. 183 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
