Somebody in pick No. 148 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Jaylin Noel, the No. 102 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Skattebo has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value.
Jayden Higgins in the 61st overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Skattebo at slot 79 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylin Noel at No. 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Hayden Conner at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 238 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Quinn Carroll in pick No. 250, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
