You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at pick No. 246 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get a seam-stretching tight end, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Donovan Jackson in the 59th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Tez Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quinshon Judkins in No. 146 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Billy Bowman Jr. at pick 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 235 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Cam Skattebo in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
