For all the boxes ticked, the Commanders skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was.
Reaching for Henderson left real value on the table behind him. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Travis Hunter in Round 1, Pick 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
TreVeyon Henderson in the 34th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
They took Josh Simmons at par in pick 66, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 98th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Javontez Spraggins at slot 130 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Billy Bowman Jr. at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Fair-plus on Antwaun Powell-Ryland, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
