The Akheem Mesidor pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 135 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
On value alone, Fitzgerald makes the weekend a net positive. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Taking Luther Burden III in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 29 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They will replay Omarion Hampton at the 94th pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They talked themselves into Willie Lampkin at slot 148, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Akheem Mesidor this early at the 207th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at slot 238. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ryan Fitzgerald at pick No. 250 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
