The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cameron Ward, the No. 65 name on the board, in the 98th overall pick.
The cost of the Henderson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Josh Simmons at par in the 66th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Cameron Ward still on the board at pick No. 98. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in slot 130, where Denver Harris graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Akheem Mesidor in pick 162; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavian Sorey Jr. in Round 6, Pick 23 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
