The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Ozzy Trapilo, 92 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

The Barham pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 28
In pick 13 they get a weapon on the perimeter, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 44
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Warren at the 38th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Ozzy Trapilo · OT · rank 136
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 92
Kevin Winston Jr. at slot 69 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Sonny Styles · S · rank 124
Sonny Styles at No. 80 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Jake Majors · C · rank 93
Jake Majors in the 83rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 102
Good price on Nicholas Singleton in Round 4, Pick 4, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.2 · Pick 140 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 203
DJ Campbell in pick 140 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
R7.5 · Pick 219 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 204
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jared Wilson at No. 219 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
R7.8 · Pick 222 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 246
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke Lachey. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.23 · Pick 237 · Jaishawn Barham · LB · rank 198
Circle this one: Jaishawn Barham at slot 237 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
