Green Bay Packers

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Mason McCormick, 32 picks ahead of schedule.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 28
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 47
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in pick No. 41. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 72
They liked Jaden Hicks enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 62. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 89
Caelen Carson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 105
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
Mason McCormick in slot 127 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 143
The board had cheaper options than Tommy Eichenberg at pick 131, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Marcus Harris · DE-EDGE · rank 140
By-the-book stuff, Marcus Harris at pick No. 134 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 168
Sione Vaki at slot 168 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 219
Garret Greenfield at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Rasheen Ali · RB · rank 225
A reach for Rasheen Ali in the 216th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 244
LaDarius Henderson in Round 7, Pick 23 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 277
Blake Watson at the 251st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
