The Evan Anderson pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 36 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
On value alone, Washington makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Graham Barton in slot 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the 87th pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, McKinnley Jackson at pick 125 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Dwight McGlothern in the 174th overall pick, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Tahj Washington all the way to No. 216, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nathaniel Watson in the 220th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Trevin Wallace in slot 233, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Rasheen Ali in the 244th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Evan Anderson this early at pick 246. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
