There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Jacobe Johnson, 48 picks ahead of schedule. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caleb Banks at pick No. 52. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Treydan Stukes in the 92nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Michael Trigg at pick 112 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Dametrious Crownover in the 120th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Caleb Douglas in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
They paid up for Reggie Virgil at No. 160 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 201st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Thaddeus Dixon at No. 236 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jacobe Johnson this early at pick No. 255. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
