The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tyler Shough, the No. 146 name on the board, in the Round 6 slot. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 22
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 43
They paid sticker price for Matthew Golden in No. 44, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 21
Steal is underselling it; Colston Loveland at pick No. 51 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 54
TreVeyon Henderson in the 76th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 131
They barely believed it either: Darius Alexander still on the board at the 150th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 137
Jay Higgins in Round 5, Pick 31 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Vernon Broughton · DL · rank 151
Circle this one: Vernon Broughton at slot 172 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Earnest Greene III · OT · rank 156
The board fumbled Earnest Greene III all the way to pick 174, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Tyler Shough · QB · rank 146
Tyler Shough in No. 190 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.21 · Pick 199 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 183
Jaylen Reed slid further than he should have, and pick 199 is lovely value for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 199
A tidy bit of business in the 211th overall pick, where Jordan Hancock graded well above the range. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Jaylin Smith · CB · rank 248
Jaylin Smith in the 249th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
